Instituto de Arte y CulturaExecutive Summary Mission goal Our mission statement is to present, promote and preserve the Hispanic culture through the fine arts, the cultural arts, the performing arts and the media. Instituto de Arte y Cultura recognizes the growing need to provide a "Home" for an Hispanic Arts Center. It is our belief that Instituto can be the "umbrella agency" for the state of Minnesota. Who we are Instituto de Arte y Cultura has been a registered charitable organization with the state of Minnesota, incorporated on March 8th, 1979, by Minnesotan's concerned with addressing the unmet cultural and artistic needs of the Hispanic community. In 1980, we received our 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. We are served by a 12 member board that is represented by the business, political as well as the educational sector of our community. The board, winch reflects our commitment to diversity, are involved in the Executive, Finance, Program and Publicity committees within Instituto.What we do Instituto has the following five primary core areas of programming. They are; Cinco de Mayo and local Hispanic cultural events Instituto takes a lead role in the coordination of promoting, presenting, and preserving the annual Cinco de Mayo as well as other cultural festivals. Our role is to increase public participation which has generated a positive celebration of community diversity.The Hispanic Arts after School Enrichment Program (HAASE) Instituto's goal is to create awareness of Hispanic culture, do cultural recovery and affirm diversity through educational programming. In 1996, HAASE operated within the Minneapolis school system in which over 350 students participated.The Coalition of Hispanics in Cable Arts (CRICA) Instituto is dedicated to providing Hispanics with opportunities in the telecommunication field. Instituto in 1995 produced four 30-minute segments that were so positive that MTN aired more viewing that originally scheduled. Future CIRCA programs will cover a broad spectrum of Latino issues in content while providing training in planning and producing cable video for young people. Minnesota Hispanic Heritage Month Sep.l5th to Oct.15th Instituto has over 18 years presenting this month long event which provides the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contributions of Hispanic Americans, the rich traditions and cultural diversity. Many artists and volunteers help in the variety of performances, workshops, art exhibits, and films showcasing the artistic contributions of Spain, Mexico, South and Central America as well as the Caribbean countries. In 1996, 141 artists brought their artist expressions to over 10,500 people. |
